Something Is Killing The Children #1 Review

BOOM! Studios has been dishing out some great books as of late and the print sales show. Something Is Killing The Children #1 is already onto multiple printings as is the very hot book, Once & Future. They both coincidentally have one thing in common: monster hunting.

MONSTER HUNTING IS SO HOT RIGHT NOW

Something Is Killing The Children is the story of missing children in the quiet town of Archer’s Peak. At least they were believed to be missing until James witnessed his friends being butchered by something not so human. Believed to be the overactive imagination of a child, his accounts of that night are dismissed by the townsfolk and authorities. However a mysterious woman wants to hear James’ story again, she believes him, and she has it handled.

Coming from the award winning writer James Tynion IV and art by Werther Dell’Edera, Something Is Killing The Children is a familiar story we never grow tired of. I’m not talking about the death of kids by the hands of murderous creatures, I’m talking about the monster hunter with an unexpected sidekick. This story abandons, for the time being, the comedic aspect of such duo and instead latches onto a much deeper tone. This isn’t so much a Spielberg suburban hero story as it gives off a much darker Stranger Things vibe. Is it worth all the hype it’s producing? I don’t know, we’ll definitely need to see what the next few issues have in store.
