Lando. Double or Nothing

lando, star wars, marvel comics, comic book reviewStar Wars: Lando #1 Review

Wooyee, Lando is pimp, always has been. The flashiest smuggler and scoundrel to ever rise from the poker table to the Baron of Bespin’s Cloud City. Of course he’d get the title Baron, nothing else would fit ol’ Lando’s style quite like Baron. Disney is going all in on Star Wars, as they should since it’s one of the most exciting sci-fi series ever created, pumping out movie after movie for its expanded universe. While Solo got his own film Lando arguably could have stolen the show but, what other better way to expand on the war of the stars than with your own book.

Star Wars: Lando starts with a 5 part series aptly named “Double or Nothing”. The only title that could have been better was something to the extent of “Delusions of Grandeur”. In this series we find Lando in a predicament not too unfamiliar, one might say it’s very Solo-esque but, who cares, we love’em both. They each have their own little charm, Lando just has a little more class. The story has to do with smuggling by the way.

We have Rodney Barnes writing Star Wars: Lando, I just learned about him and couldn’t believe I had wikipepdiad the correct person but yep, Rodney Barnes has also written for “Boondocks” and “Everybody Hates Chris”. Yes he’s also done work for Marvel’s Runaways and Falcon, so he’s good. Then there’s Paolo Villanelli doing the interior art, another name I didn’t recognize, this doesn’t happen often but, no worries, he’s done some Star Wars work in the past with art for Rogue One.

Lando “Double or Nothing” is using the exact recipe the Star Wars expanded universe has been using over the past few years. It’s a little Guardians of the Galaxy mixed with a little Mad Max. We got the funny and we got the serious, but there always seems to be a little line just aching to be crossed. Don’t forget to appreciate L3-37 while you’re at it, he’s like the spirit of K-2SO, and he’s a LEET droid. Gaming nerds know what I’m talkin’ bout.
