Justice League Odyssey… In Space!

Justice League of the Galaxy, I mean, Justice League Odyssey is finally here! After only a short delay DC’s newest Justice League lead by Cyborg has hit store shelves. I think those of you who will read Justice League Odyssey will find the phrase “lead by Cyborg” both broad and debatable.

Dark Nights: Metal as many of you know has torn apart the DC Universe, leaving teams rebuilding and many heroes fending for themselves. Justice League Dark had Wonder Woman building up an unlikely team of magical misfits and now we find Cyborg and Starfire trying to fix what seemingly can’t be repaired. Add in a little Ghost Sector, Green Lantern, new gods, and Darkseid and you have yourself a maelstrom of a story.

justice league odyssey,dc comics, comic book review, cosmic comicsJoshua Williamson takes the helm for Justice League Odyssey with art from Stjepan Sejic. Honestly it’s all very “DC”; it reads like a DC book, it feels like a DC book, and it looks like a DC book. On the surface it’s chock full of super hero saviors, action, and an indomitable god. In reality, it’s very safe. It follows a formula that’s enjoyable but predictable.

Justice League Odyssey #1 is not a bad book. Being safe isn’t a death sentence, it doesn’t make the read any less enjoyable. I just don’t want you coming into this book thinking you’re going to get some jaw dropping Justice League story that will shake the very foundation of the DCU. Justice League Odyssey could exist even without the Justice League title. Indiana Jones have thrived with this formula. Justice League Odyssey is not like Indiana Jones, I’m not saying that either…

[…] Joshua Williamson and David Marquez’s Batman/Superman #1 is a fantastic book by itself. The story, the art, the villains, the banter, it’s all on point. I don’t read many Bat books, and I sure as hell don’t read many Supes books but, this one is different. It just hits on all cylinders and will make you gasp on the last page.  No peaking though, it’s worth the surprise. […]
