Description
Synopsis for “The Making of a Marshal!”
Wyatt Earp rode into the town of Ellisworth, Kansas in the summer of 1873 with 3000 dollars in his pocket from hunting buffalo and seeking to get into the cattle business. However when he sets himself up in town he learned that cattle stock prices had gone down and that cowboys from Texas have had to travel to to Kansas to sell their herds. Earp soon learned that Ellisworth was a very lawless town with cowboys constantly fighting with each other and the local sheriff unwilling to do anything to stop it.
However, this all changed the night that Bill and Ben Thompson got into a fight with a local over cards and plan on avenging their good name by shooting down John Sterling. During the stand off, Ben Thompson shoots the sheriff dead. Wyatt then watched the exchange of gunfire with Marshal “Happy Jack” Morco as the Thompson brothers began to pack up to flee town. However the Thompson brothers refused to leave town, so the mayor then ordered the marshals to deal with Bill Thompson. When the marshals became unwilling to go toe-to-toe with two armed cowboys, Wyatt decided to take matters into his own hands. Taking the job of sheriff, Wyatt then purchased a pair of guns and then stood down Bill Thompson, using his negotiation skills to convince the crazed cowboy to stand down and surrender to the law.
After succeeding in doing so, the mayor of Ellisworth offers Wyatt to stay on as sheriff, however Earp at that time had no interest in being a lawman and turns over the star and rides off to continue his career as a buffalo hunter.
