Synopsis for “Quicksand”
The Rawhide Kid and his young ward Randy Clayton are out on a ride when they spot a coyote chasing a rabbit near a patch of quicksand. They watch as the rabbit tricks the coyote into following him into the quicksand, the coyote gets stuck but the rabbit manages to flee. After saving the coyote from the quicksand, the Kid and Randy decide to investigate how the rabbit managed to survive and found that there is a solid portion of ground that runs the length of the quicksand patch.
Meanwhile in Shotgun City, outlaw Gunner Gans and his gang are paying a visit to the sheriff, showing him a letter that was written by the local US Marshal telling the sheriff that he will be replaced by Gans and his gang. Back on the trail, the Rawhide Kid and Randy find the marshal wounded and tied up to the tree. He tells them that he was ambushed by Gunner Gans who forced him to write a letter. The Kid comes up with a plan and convinces the Marshal to let him do things his way.
The Rawhide Kid sends Randy ahead with a letter to the former sheriff to get a posse of men, while delivering a challenge to Gunner Gans. Later, the Kid rides into town and goes to the local saloon where he confronts Gans and his gang. He shoots at them and then flees back out of the saloon and races off on his horse. Gunner and his gang follow after him. The Rawhide Kid then leads them into the quicksand patch, using the hardened path to ride across to safety while Gunner and his gang get caught in the mud leaving them vulnerable to the sheriff and his posse.
