Yesterday, Lions Gate Entertainment released the first official trailer for the new Judge Dredd movie starring Karl Urban (Bones from the J.J. Abrams version of Star Trek). This version of the Seventh Greatest Comic Character is a much more gritty version of the Dredd universe than the campy Stallone flick from my youth and while both movies are rated R, this new one looks like it really earned that rating. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film. Filmed in 3D with stunning slow motion photography sequences, the film returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra‘s revered comic strip.
